This has been the only boat to pass us today. The ice returned overnight but isn't expected to last long enough to become anywhere near impenetrable to boats on the move. I'll keep you posted.

Gunner took a liking to this moose in a local charity shop the other day and has been very gentle with it ever since Ginny bought it for him.
When I ask Gunner, 'where's the moose-in-the-hoose' he obligingly fetches it and gives it to me. He must think I need a toy to play with too. I sometimes wonder who is the more intelligent, me for asking or him for understanding!

This ewe hadn't been long in the water before I came by, which is a shame. I usually pull one or two live ones from the canal every year, but sadly a lot more drown.

1. A soggy towpath and the angling match venue.
2. The welcoming late afternoon glow of a local pub.
An angling match took place yesterday at Higher Poynton on the 'Maccy', not far from where we are moored. And where there was nothing before, I later came across a dead pike of about 14lbs, an assortment of polythene bags, a flask, tin foil and drinks cans, all discarded along the towpath where the match had taken place. It goes to show that match angling is just all about the money too these days, that and the match stewards just couldn't be bothered. Oh well, another refuse bag of litter added to the tally and a carrier bag of dog-poo in bags also collected along the way. The Pike was given a decent burial too. The 'garden' looks much better for a tidy.

1. Sunday, Red sky at night.............
2. Monday, me and my shadow.
3. About to move on from our Christmas and New Year layover.
After an encouraging sky-sign on Sunday evening, Monday dawned under a clear blue sky and bathed us in the warm glow of a sun that lifted the spirits no end.
Brian and Anne-Marie came alongside at around 10-ish on the way back to their wharf depot so so we took the opportunity to top the diesel off, stock up on coal and replace an empty gas cylinder. We then set off for High Lane garage to replenish our generator petrol supply and then made our way to the 'Trading Post' at Poynton to turn and service the boat before moving onto a quiet linear mooring we'd passed a half mile back.
The next few days won't be as settled me thinks!

A gloomy New Years Eve on the 'Maccy' with Goyt Mill in the distance.
The sun hasn't really broken through the gloom of overcast skies here for over a week now and, with almost continuous rain too, it looks as though we'll have to have our wellies surgically removed.
The good news is that we need all this rain and much more.
If nothing else this New Year why not resolve to stop wasting water.
