Thanks Twiglet, thanks Rys. I took it this afternoon, it's a very algae-fied pond with trees growing out of it. Puts me in mind of one of those barren mangrove swamps. The title "silent spring" came up a couple of times last week, once as the book title and once as a song title. So I borrowed it!
I was gonna ask if it was full of 'nannie green teeth' which I now realise is algae :)
