A favourite of mine too .... I am in the middle of a Dennis Potter fest and his version of Tender is the Night is on my list .....
Now that sounds interesting. Will have to seek it out.
I loved the Stella Gibbons. She must have been a very clever, sharp lady. The plot's a typical chick lit plot, even the characters are typical chick lit, but her treatment of them is wonderful. They're so well invented and commented upon, that I felt rather sad to finish the book and a bit like I've lost contact with some pretty good friends.
