We awoke to find the ice had frozen into beautifully patterned swirls and various shades of frost during the night only to be spectacularly dashed to pieces as Narrowboat Alton with Brian at her helm headed home after a busy few days plying their trade.

On their outbound run, Brian and Ann-Marie moored Alton in front of us on a late Saturday afternoon in the dark and topped us up with coal as well as delivering to another two boats moored nearby. The sound of breaking ice early Sunday morning signalled the start of another busy day as Alton got underway to begin another full days work. Those two certainly put the hours in and are very much appreciated by the liveaboard community for providing crucial boat services and fuel deliveries throughout the winter months and in any weather conditions. Thanks again you two. Renaissance Canal Carrying, http://www.furnessvale.blogspot.com

The Alton is an icebreaker. Really interesting. Never thought about how you got things.

Great photos! We will be relying on Alton too once we become liveaboard.
