Originally from the UK, I am currently living with Spiderbaby in the sub-arctic city of Umeå in the north of Sweden.
Currently I am working part-time on a research project at Norrlands universitetssjukhus and being a stay-at-home dad. At least until the snow clears, then I'll be a pushing-a-pram-around-Nydala-lake dad. In addition I am trying to make my photography hobby pay by making some of my images available to buy from instacanv.as or from me directly.
Interesting things I read recently:
If the London Underground network at rush-hour were a city, it would be the fourth-largest in the UK.

"If someone can work out how to hook up a chocolate bar into a cell phone, that'd be pretty good, because there's about 35 times the energy density in a bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk [than cellphone batteries]". Simon Segars, ARM

I am Pavlovs_dog on PSN and would be happy to link up with PS3-owning mobloggers : )
Too Much Information: The first album I ever bought was the Fraggle Rock soundtrack. Pretty cool, eh? I was only 16 : )

Looks really interesting.
Good luck to you both - how long are you there for?
Gael> At least 2 years, probably a bit longer. A lot depends on whether we get to like living here! At the moment we're both very homesick for Rhode Island!
It still hasn't quite sunk in that we've left. Rhode Island was lovely. I think we'll like it here too, once we get know what we're doing. There's a lot going on and I'm looking forward to getting into it.
We're Spiderbaby and Crickson sick in RI... Microspikes for your boots may be a good investment. Looks beautiful there tho!
I've actually been to Umea! I may have stayed there for a night - we got the ferry from there to Vassa. in Finland.
I like Scandanavia lots, I'm sure you'll settle soon. Do you get lessons in coping with the dark? Can Spiderbaby work too, or will there be lots of cake making and knitting like in the early USA days?
EDIT sorry for the twenty questions! PS the talk in our canteen the other day was about the prof who left his life's work on his laptop, I gather that was at Umea too. Make sure Crickson uses his backup!
Really! One day we hope to take that ferry to go to Moominland (well I do anyway) :)
Do you think his laptop is still here somewhere? Are there clues? Maybe I could find it!
In theory I can work here, and am job hunting (though finishing up some previous lab stuff first/at the same time). Hopefully something will turn up but in meantime you surmise correctly; there will be knitting and baking :)
oh, you wandering leeds people. wishing you best of everything, maybe even mushy peas.
Awww, I'm sorry you're both homesick, but your new home looks lovely and interesting. I'm sure you'll be exploring soon and feeling better.
