In Bloom

I was given an amaryllis bulb for Christmas. The picture on the box looks just like your bloom -- apparently mine's of the flamingo variety.

I didn't plant it though (I don't really like pots of soil inside and I don't have any nice windowsills for pots). However, the bulb decided to grow anyway, in its box. So I went and bought it a vase today with a cupped head and I'm going to try to grow it in just water. I hope it comes out somewhere near as good as yours.

I'm pretty sure you can grow them in a vase like you can with hyacinths. Good luck H. I love them. This is one my ma in law gave me for Christmas. It may have been called Flamingo. I didn't keep the box and I've forgotten. I grew a white one too called Snow Queen.

It was the boyfriend's mum that bought me mine. It's already proved to be pretty stubborn, so I have high hopes.
