"And as you cross the circle line,
Well the ice wall creaks behind
You're a rabbit on the run.
And the silver splinters fly
In the corner of your eye,
Shining in the setting sun.
Well do you ever get the feeling
That the story's too damn real
And in the present tense.
Or that everbody's on the stage
And it seems like you're the only
Person sitting in the audience
Skating away, skating away, skating away
On the thin ice of the new day"

George, nooooo. I like vultures, and they are great aids in local ecologies.
vultures threatened by medication" poor creatures can eat any amount of disgusting stuff, but our medicating animals is killing them off....
We belong to the RSPB and DD was quite heavily involved in a save the vulture fund raising thing a couple of years ago. I like them, I like their baldy faces and heads.....
He looks a bit sad, bless him. I really like the first and fourth shots :)
Thanks, Craft. :) This is one of those times I would have gotten on my knees for bigger glass.
I'm there, Paintist. Just read the link you provided. That's a travesty. I did some further reading on the vulture restaurants, but it seems even they can't stave off extinction, as the antibiotic is still being used even though it's now outlawed. That's more than a shame in a country rather dependent on vultures. Such short-sighted thinking and actions will have a high cost for us all.
Thank you, Dhamaka. The closest I got was about 30 yards or so (a bit over 27 meters). The 2nd shot was when I was approaching, but further away. He was prepping to fly away, but calmed down when I stopped. They are curious about the shutter noise.
Twiglet, good on you and DD. Those bald heads are a great example of the evolutionary process, and unlike most people, I think they are rather handsome. :)
Thanks, Wendle. I think most vultures look that way, it's the lack of head feathers. He was getting more than a bit annoyed by us - I was stalking on foot, and Rick was in the truck on the road. He kept flying ahead of us, waiting for us to leave so he could get back to that tasty squarshed jackrabbit.
They are truly magnificent birds! I'd never seen one till we moved to Rhode Island. There seem to lots of them here, always see 2 or 3 circling various spots along the route to work in the morning. They're massive! Very impressive.
Great shots. Very strange looking head but so beautiful in flight.
They are, SB! Amazing when in flight, they are wonderfully huge, they usually have a 6 foot wingspan. I've seen about a dozen all circling once or twice, but both times I've been on the highway, so no shots.
Thanks, Cariadus. They are gorgeous in flight and you can see them from a long way off.
interesting thread here, very informative. last shot faved!
That's some storyboard. Vulture life, ND, in 5 frames. Nice one. :)
