being a lifelong d-i-y haircuttist, I have suffered this indignity often.

my latest trimmers work from battery AND mains.

It's ten years now I use the clipper for hair cut: once I had a very similar incident and since then I do not do the operations alone.

Glad to hear it's not just me then.
I now have the charger in my wash-bag with the clippers so I'll not get caught out again.
