A 366-day pursuit in personal portraiture, presented by nige.
The challenge: to photograph, and post to this moblog, a portrait shot of myself, every single day, over the next year. Apparently, it's much harder than it sounds...
Perhaps more challenging: that i don't enjoy seeing my phizog in a photo at the best of times, and knowing that i'm probably going to annoy the hell out of the moblog community in doing this. So, sincere apologies in advance for this undertaking, but i just can't help myself. I promise to try and be creative, so you won't have to look at my mug every day.
Anyone interested in joining me? I think i'm probably going to need the company...

ahh, you did the same as me then:
me and luke played t'other day. for almost 5 hours
Boardwalk, you want Boardwalk. Damn these international sensitivities.
Did you cheat? I do.
HNY kyoob.
Spike, this was inspired - in part - by your monopoly game pics ; )
Swamprose, i know, i know, but Mayfair is Boardwalk. Cheat? i'm an amateur, so i don't know how to do that just yet...
Thanks Euphro. This was actually with my Ricoh GR on macro mode.
Impressive!
I'm saving-up for a second-hand D200 body at the moment :)
how so? have you pushed the other bodies as far as they can go? image quality wise, there is no difference between the D40 and everything in-between up to the D300. it's the lenses that make the real difference. the D200 is just quicker, and allows more tweaking in-camera, really.
Well, I've got a D50 and I would like the faster shooting rate (5 fps vs 2.5), ISO 100 (and the boost up to 3200, which the D50 doesn't have). The bigger screen is really nice and, having had the D100 for work, I'm hooked on the external controls for metering. The extra megapixels are neither here nor there. I'd love the 18-200 VR too, but that may have to wait. What do you think?
*just* quicker?
I tried a D3 the other day. Pleased I did. Despite the speed it's far too big and heavy for me
Yes, the D3 is massive. Not to be confused with the D300, however :)
the lens is well worth it Euphro. it's pretty much all i use, bar my 50mm prime lens.
yes D, just quicker, plus the extra tweaks that Euphro has mentioned, which most people are unlikely to use, unless they are professionals, or need it for specific purposes, like you. the super-high ISO's are pretty useless due to noise, and the other functions - like external metering - just allow you to tweak things quicker instead of going into the menu, so it's a speed issue once again. of course, opinions vary, but thats my take.
Perhaps I should save-up for the lens instead :) Have you had any problems with sensor dust, and, if so, how do you deal with it?
You won't be disappointed with the lens, Euphro. Worth checking it out.
As for sensor dust, i haven't had too much of an issue yet, and the cleaning kits are easy to use, with common sense. It's just a case of getting over the fear of venturing near the sensor. Hehe. The D300 has an auto-clean function, i believe.
Indeed not to be confused with the D300, but that speed could make a huge difference and the opportunity kind of presented itself..
Thanks for your thoughts, nige. Once you mentioned it, I remembered reading that the D200 had a bit of a problem with noise at high ISO levels (even 1600). Packing more pixels into any sensor has to reduce the sensitivity. The only other thing that attracts me to the D200 is the aperture ring, which would allow me to use a nice manual lens I have. However, the D70s would also let me do that, and they are a lot cheaper second-hand :)
Absolutely. Having said that i've seen some amazing deals on the D80 - less than £350 for the brand new body in some places. I'm amazed at how accesible DSLR photography has become.
Thanks for making me reflect on this. You've probably saved me quite a bit of money :D
Can you point me to the place that you saw the D80 for £350?
:)
not sure of the retailer, and admittedly it was on ebaY, but i was just amazed to see it at that price.
