interesting, have you considered the corrolation between, number of plank walks per year, and number of decent british breweries remaining?...coincidence? I think not.

and the virtual extinction of flat irons, possibly also due to global warming but as yet unproven
But there are surely more pressing mathematical issues to be addressed. Further research is still needed on the important missing spoons problem.

Hmmm, I hadn't thought about the plank/brewery connection. I'm sure it has something to do with them scurvy Greene King dogs, though. Thanks for all the suggestions, guys! We've got a few other ideas - pirate geometry ("consider a circle with radius Arrrr..."), pirate algebra ("let Arrrrr be a ring..."), pirate cryptology (analysis of the cryptosystems used by those ninja scallywags), a fluid-dynamical analysis of the effects of keel-haulin' on boat speed, the differential geometry of maps tatooed on sailors' backs, categorical and homological aspects of the theory of parrot training...
