I fear my iPod may be beyond its useful life as a music player. The plastic ring around the headphone socket (around the remote contacts) has entirely snapped off, and I can only get sound out of it intermittently.

I'm going to see if durosity can maybe work his magic on it.
(Otherwise I'm quite tempted by a nano...)

It's a 1st gen iPod, but with a rubbery cover on it to stop it getting dented and stuff.

mpp: That's not a bad point, I wonder if my insurance would cover it? (it would probably just put my premium up though, whereas a new nano is around £100. I reckon I could probably justify that.)
