Cycling home

I love snow. I was in my 20s before I'd seen proper snow and still find myself babbling to friends about how lovely I find it.

It was slow going on my bike but hardly treacherous. Was even able to whip off my gloves and camphone a few snaps on the way home.

Peace out!

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure what peace out actually means but I've heard young(er) people saying it.

Roald Dahl Children's Gallery

Visited the Aylesbury Museum yesterday. I wanted to see the holograms and we thought the kids would like Roald Dahl gallery.

Holograms - huge technological innovation marred by terrible, terrible sense of taste.

Roald Dahl Gallery was lots of fun though mostly only tangentially associated with the man himself. I'd read pretty much all of his writing for grown ups when I was a teenager and apart from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was pretty much oblivious to the fact he was a children's author. I do remember thinking there was a touch of the misanthrope running through his books and on top of that, a weird sort of fear of women (with their big red devouring mouths and wily seductive ways). And so now when I encounter Roald Dahl, the twinkly-eyed Grandfather I'm just a little perlexed. But then, maybe his gruesome kids tales came from the same place. That said, the kid's books really are a joy to read out loud ... unlike Enid Blyton.
