Restart Night

(viewed 2296 times)
Restart : The Night is the party night we have created to raise funds to repair stopped clocks in the UK.

All over the country there are *thousands* of stopped clocks, it boggles the mind. They range from those cute little ones outside shops used as advertising hoardings, through to enormous and antique clocks at the top of Church turrets and Town Halls.

Restart : The Night is a child of http://www.stoppedclocks.com where we are documenting all the stopped clocks in the UK, and then raising funds to repair those most in need. The first Restart party is coming up on the 16th of November, and we're hosting a night of Rock and Roll AND DJ's at Club 333 in Old Street. It's only £7 (£5 concessions) to get in, and there are some seriously ace bands in the line-up:

Blah Blah Blah
blah blah blah
"strong stuff in the tradition of Dury, Skinner, Ray Davies"

Mama Shamone

Rothamstead Manor-Stopped Clock

(viewed 2219 times)
Hi Alfie,
I am sending this again to you as I did not get a reply from the previous
attempt.
I saw the program on BBC when you were interviewed about your new web site
http://www.stoppedclocks.com/ Not far from me is a place with a stopped
clock that may be of interest to you. It is Rothamstead Manor, near
Harpenden, which dates from the 13th century. Its present appearance dates
from the 17th century.
http://www.rothamsted.ac.uk/resources/rmlmanor/index.htm
/> It is owned by Rothamstead Research a centre for Agricultural Research
http://www.rothamsted.ac.uk/ located at
http://www.solobach.com/venues/rothamsted.html
/> Here are some picture of the rather grand building with its clock which is
unfortunately inoperative. I am copying this email to Susannah Bolton who is
head of International and Public Liaison. She may be able to shed some light
on the stopped clock and aid you in your campaign to get stopped clacks
started again!
Regards

Stopped Clock - Cairns Australia

(viewed 3300 times)
Hello,

I've just got back from a holiday to Australia. Our last stop was in Cairns
(with plans to see the Great Barrier Reef) when I spotted a clock at the top
of a monument with the incorrect time. I thought of your web site, but then
on closer inspection I noticed that the hands were actually painted onto the
clock. I was a little confused and read the plaque next to the monument.
This is what it said:

"At 4:28am on the 25th April 1915 the Anzac landing at Gallipoli commenced.
The hands of the clock faces on this cenotaph are set at that time to
commemorate that historic event"

So this is a stopped clock that doesn't need fixing!

Best Regards
