You might think this is cold, but its also bloody hard work. The digging keeps you warm and you take turns in pairs. The other bloke gets very cold very quickly and is kicking your feet to swap just as you've warmed up!
Build a huge mound of snow, bugger off for a few hours to let it all settle, then hollow it out, leaving it about 2 foot thick (give or take).
Above, we dug two tunnels in to speed things up, meeting in the middle.
Another one from the Solent last year. You can just see how soaked the waterproofs are. Thankfully, they live up to their name and are very toasty warm!
