just a test, nothing to see here, move along...

We bought this huge stuffed animal at Easter just to see what Bandit
would make of it. It is bigger than him. He plays with it a bit, then
loses interest when we won't let him destroy it. We put it on a shelf
when we can't directly supervise him with it. Don tossed it on the
floor tonight but Bandit wasn't interested. Jenny, however, started
headbutting it around so I put it on the blanket she seems to like best,
she pushed it around until she had it just right and has been zonked out
on it since. We'll let her have it every evening if it makes her happy.
She's doing pretty OK these days. We have her on a new heart medication
and it seems to be working well. We've also started to have her and
Bandit sleep in their crate down here as it seems if she has the bedroom
to move around in, she has to pee 3 times a night - and so neither of us
were getting anywhere near enough sleep. Still, what the beagle wants,
the beagle gets pretty much - at this point we're after quality more
than quantity as far as time. Now we both sleep all night and I just
have to hustle to get her out in the morning.

Poor old tree was badly damaged by the ice storm in December. You can't
see it in these but where it splits near the ground, we strongly suspect
it's cracked (the ice had bowed the smaller half right over to where it
was almost touching the neighbor's house) and the chain fall there is
all that's held it together while we got through the rest of this
winter. You can see some of the damage to the top - there are still
some large broken branches up there that are hanging on by a wing and a
prayer. And that doesn't include the vast amounts that did fall and
already get dealt with. We've taken down the other damaged trees
ourselves, but this one is just too close to the neighbor's house and
too chancy being split like that, so a tree company is coming tomorrow
or Sunday to take it down safely. Yes, tree companies in this area are
working 7 days a week these days. They are squeezing us in because of
the precariousness of the situation, plus it's a two-fer for them as the
neighbor needs a tree taken down too so they can kill two birds...or
trees, as it were...with one visit.

Miss JB, for some reason, favours behind Don's recliner as a resting
spot the vast majority of the time these days. I think she likes being
between the radiator and the heat register in the floor - the warmth and
vibration (from the fan in the heat register) sooth her creaky old
bones. She has a comfy bed but doesn't use it! I'm going to measure the
space back there and get her another bed that fits in th space. She is
doing OK still - she has congestive heart failure and we know her days
are numbered but we don't know what that number is - might be a few
months, might be a few years. When the heart meds can't keep her happy
and comfy any more, we'll let her go on to her next life.
Bandit, meanwhile, is still a little bonehead, God love him. While I
was in the shower he seemed to feel that the thing to do was nick my
sweatshirt off the couch and ensconce himself in the sleeve - where he
got well stuck! Sausage dog, indeed. Yes, I made him wait for rescue
while I got the camera and took his picture. It's not like he was going

My iBook, while still running, has been showing it's age in a myriad of
small but annoying ways. I needed to get something else before it up
and died and finally had to admit that the computer I really wanted (24"
iMac!) was well out of my financial reach and would be for some time to
come. Fortunately I stumbled upon this little beauty for nearly half
off due to it being replaced by a different - but not particularly more
advanced - model. At first I wasn't sure how I would like the croc
texture but I love it - shiny but does not show fingerprints!

Just a smidge, mind you.
1 - My car - you can tell it's the light fluffy snow by how a lot has
fallen/been blown off the car
2 - This is a lawn tractor with a full sized belt driven snowplow
attached. I figured you lot in the south of England might have never
seen such a thing, based on the reaction to snow you've shown this year. ;)
3. - Some 16 inches of snow later....and we may get 4 more overnight.
Even for us, this is a significant snow fall.
4 - Somewhere in there is the walk to our porch. Don is out there
taking care of it now and fortunately the mailman doesn't come for a
little while yet, normally.
