It always takes a while to get home. Flying gets some of you here
quick, but your soul strays....
The native Americans are right on that point...!
So what next?
Be home for a bit. It all feels like it needs some simple solidity,
after all the depth of 'me' and world explorations.
I've got zillions of pictures and projects to sort through, my
computer needs attention, and things to think about! And guess what,
.... I'm not even going to write a list.
:-)
The cricket is on.
Fun commuting, and problems with ice cream melting out of the pot....
Last sight of Tiruvannamalai. I'm off to Chennai for 2 days, then 2 nights on the train to Delhi, then back home.
The light on top of the mountain, representing Siva, is lit at 6pm, on December Full Moon.
It'll be lit every evening for 10 nights.
The day after the cars, a walk around the mountain before the big day. Laxman took these pictures.
One million people are expected. A cattle market is set up, and all is prepared to feed and water the crowds. The authorities are prepared too. Though the roads will be a gridlock, like each year.
I'm buying cow bells.
Four wooden cart like this one (this is the biggest) get pulled on the road around the temple, carrying each of the four main gods. This is a long circuit, up and down hill.
It was pouring with rain that day.
This is the biggest car carrying Siva. The cart is pulled with huge chains, and slowed down by people standing on chains at the back, and wooden wedges are pushed under the edge of the wheels for steering. I'm told they fitted hydraulic brakes on recently. The cart is started with beams used as levers.
Here, the ladies are getting ready to pull and grab the chains on the left, while men pull the ones on the right.
The cane is used to hold a small hammoc containing a baby or young child. The baby is carried around the temple on certain days by people who want a child to be born to the family.
