claire and rich had evan a few weeks back now. he's two days old in this pic in which rich proudly demonstrates his "baby origami" skills. quality swaddling.
lily's growing at an alrming rate and is now giggling and laughing. so i've been told. although she seems to start crying every time i pick her up.
maybe it's time to change aftershave?

met greeny for a evening of slightly merry pedaling round town a couple of weeks back. we ended up in the graffiti amnesty underpass between york road and lower marsh market.

grandad died this week.
he died peacefully in his sleep on tuesday night after a long illness and a long and happy life.
i'm finding it hard to think of appropriate things to say because he meant so much to so many people.
to me he was just a perfect grandfather. strong and kind, fun and loving. he never really talked about his own fascinating and eventful life (beyond the odd engineering based anecdote - usually uninvited in the middle of another conversation) but always wanted to know about everyone else's.
he was serious and demanding and he didn't suffer fools gladly. but he was also silly, playful and generous and loving. he had an easy smile and a helpless and infectious laugh.
he could be overbearing and insensitive. but he was a wonderful and caring man and he loved his all his family equally, unconditionally and completely.
he was a profoundly intelligent, good, kind and deeply lovely man.
i wish i'd made more of an effort to get to know him better.
but the little i did know i loved very very much.
he was, and will always be, loved by all of us.
goodbye grandad, you will be missed and loved forever.
x
EDIT:
i've been looking for this einstein quote for weeks:
"From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know: that we are here for the sake of each other - above all for those upon whose smile and well-being our own happiness depends"
