Originally from the UK, I am currently living with Spiderbaby in the sub-arctic city of Umeå in the north of Sweden.

Currently I am working part-time on a research project at Norrlands universitetssjukhus while studying Swedish. In addition I am trying to make my photography hobby pay by making some of my images available to buy from twenty20 or from me directly.

Interesting things I read recently:

"Only one in five people born [in the UK] since 1975 believes in God".
Source: Prof David Voas, University of Essex

"For every dollar invested in the Human Genome project, $141 was returned to the US economy". Francis Collins, NIH
Source: New Scientist 27 July 2013.

I am Pavlovs_dog on PSN and would be happy to link up with PS3-owning mobloggers : )

Too Much Information: The first album I ever bought was the Fraggle Rock soundtrack. Pretty cool, eh? I was only 16 : )

Trip to Holmön island

Reportedly the sunniest place in Sweden. I beg to differ.

Göring: Sweden is a shit county we can trample to death.

Historically interesting and everything, but I wonder how the Germans here feel seeing this on the front of the newspaper..?

Didn't give me spinning eyes, alas. But didn't taste half bad either!

Finally we are basically moved. Most of our stuff is in the new place, we have internet, and we're settling in. I'd like again to thank all the friends that helped us today!
Did we miss anything? I see moblog is shiny clean and spam-free!

My Brain

(viewed 387 times)
I recently volunteered to be part of a control group in an experiment. It involved giving spinal fluid samples and having an MRI brain scan. This is the result of that scan. This is my brain. This is me.

Every memory, every thought, everything I've ever done or said is because of this lump of mostly fat. This brain has a PhD. It will also forget your name approximately three seconds after meeting you, and has to sing the alphabet song to itself, beginning to end, when trying to sort things into alphabetical order.

Somewhere in that mass of axons there is the dimmest fragment of a memory of being buried up to the waist in sand on a beach by my father when I was about 18 months old.

There is now a growing cluster of cells in there somewhere that are dedicated to learning Swedish nursery rhymes for Freyja.

Eventually it will succumb to old age, disease or injury. Everything that makes me me will fade. It will be as if none of it ever happened.
