He's gone.

(viewed 2177 times)
Amy just called. She said that Argent had a large tumor in his stomach that was taking up about 90% of the space, and had spread to his colon. There was also an infection because his stomach lining had burst. She said there was nothing anyone could have done- this type of cancer is very aggressive and even in humans this is a terminal diagnosis. She told me that when the tumor was small enough to do anything about it, no one would have noticed a thing was even wrong with him.

I told her to give him love, and put him down. I see no reason to wake him up from such a thing.

I thank everyone who has been so supportive to the little walrus. I know that he was much beloved here and elsewhere and he will be missed. There is enough money to cover his surgery and his cremation so no one needs to send anything else. Were it not for your help we would not have even been able to find out what was killing him.

Amy says she will take a photo to show me how bad it was. I promise not to spoil anyone's dinner by sharing it.

Thanks again, everyone. He was a good boy.

He's just gone into surgery.

Amy just called. She says the fluids have certainly helped him. He's perkier, he's more alert, he's able to hold his head up and he is more with it than he was. She also gave him some B vitamins and some antibiotics this morning in preparation for surgery. She says he is still weak, though.

She's just just about to start surgery now. They are closed at the clinic for the day except for Argent's stuff so this is all they're doing. I spoke to him and according to Amy, whatever I said, he responded to. So good.

She says that this will take several hours and if it seems to go really long, she will have a nurse call me with updates as to what's going on.

Amy thanks *everyone* for all their kind words about her. She says that everyone in her little clinic has fallen completely in love with the little walrus and he already has a huge fan club.

I want to thank everyone for thinking about him and helping in whatever way they have to get him this surgery. At this point everything that can be done is being done and we can only hope he comes out the other side better than when he went in.

On the other mitten, if you're prone to worrying, now would be the time to do it.

Since I *won't* be covered in catfood/fluids today...

Settled in at the hospital.

(viewed 1357 times)
I've just gotten word from Amy, as follows:

"As expected he's a great traveller. Easy ride home. gave him fluids and
he settled down for the night at the hospital around 10. He looked pretty bright and alert."

Thank goodness. He's got fluids going into him.

Amy and Argent.

(viewed 1296 times)
I just spoke to them from the road. For those in MA, Amy is in Newton and says that anyone who wants to come visit can email her or call her. If you need the email or phone number, let me know and I'll send it along.

And they're off.

Amy and Argent are headed for Massachusetts. She says his kidneys are inflamed, but that's also because he's dehydrated. She plans on doing surgery midday tomorrow (my time.) She is really hoping that he can be woken up afterwards and promises email and photo updates.

We are still a go for about 5pm.

Amy just called. She is in NYC now and has confirmed she will be coming by around 5pm to take Argent to MA for surgery. I am going to try to feed the little guy once more about 3pm(roughly a half hour from now).

She says she will put him on fluids and a catheter tonight and agrees that surgery has to happen *now*- if he waits, he dies for sure.

He is so tired.

(viewed 1441 times)
Argent really has only one position he can lie in right now, and it's not conducive to sleeping. He is absolutely exhausted, but can't get comfortable enough to sleep soundly. The sleep deprivation is not making him any better.

He's become really fussy about eating. He is really into Do. Not. Want. in terms of food. I'm getting some into him anyway because I have to, but it feels like I'm torturing him. He also seems to be dehydrated, but I am not sure *why*, since I am watering down his food so much he should be getting lots of water.

Supposedly, Amy will be here to pick him up between 5-7pm(that's between 10-11pm GMT.) As much as I will miss him, he needs to be under full time medical supervision right now, and to be honest, I need a break- I have SO MUCH to do and I've been chained to the house for weeks now.

He's managed to keep food in for two days. At this point I don't know if that's better or worse.
