If Satan is evil, and wants us to do evil things... why do we get sent to hell and
punished by him for doing something bad? Shouldn't he be happy with us?
It doesn't make sense. God and Satan are apparently equal in power, good and evil, yet it is said that Satan, Lucifer, was created by God as an Angel, fallen and cast out of heaven to rule eternally in hell. Doesn't that mean that any of us, created by "God", could just turn around and become equal in power to God himself?
However, in the Hebrew manuscript, written before the Latin language (from which the word "Lucifer" was derived) there was no fallen angel, instead the story tells of a fallen Babylonian King, who during his lifetime had persecuted the children of Israel. The text contains no mention of Satan, either by name or reference.
In Roman astrology, Lucifer was the name given to the morning star, a star which we now know by another Roman name, Venus). Lucifer derives from the Latin term Lucem Ferre, meaning bringer (or bearer) of light: the morning star. Weird thing is, in Revelation 22:16, Jesus refers to himself as the morning star: "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star."
Can anyone shed some light? It just doesn't add up. Who is Satan, does he actually exist, and is he really evil? There's probably alot of this which doesn't make sense or is incomplete but I'm still doing my research so I'm not totally clued in.
I myself do not know what to believe, I was bought up as both a Catholic and a Buddhist, so I'm really open-minded, I just won't be fooled into thinking like everyone else without a clear explanation and understanding. I can understand that some people are completely blinded by faith, but I'm hoping there are some people out there who can agree with me that religion has many missing chapters and loop-holes that maybe others are too scared to bring up or question.
I do not worship God nor the Devil, I'm simply curious.
(Apologies for this post at Christmas, next post will be much more light-hearted lol)
