malmo style

no more holga pictures left! instead I relied on the trusty sony ericsson c902 to document some of the quirky things on display in malmo. as impressively clean and convenient ikea flat-pack furniture is, the real beauty of swedish design comes from cartoons and illustrations, toys, trinkets and ornaments. all of these are imbued with a unique sense of naive simplicity which the swedes seem to treasure.

nimis and arx

this huge sculpture was built entirely out of driftwood on the edge of the kullaberg nature reserve in sweden by a well known local artist. the sculpture is called nimis, and sits alongside smaller sculpture arx (last pic). the driftwood has been nailed together to create a complex of towers and corridors that you can walk through and climb up inside, despite the whole thing looking like it could fall apart at any moment. although the sculpture is technically illegal due to safety issues, it is proudly described in all the local guides. the pictures I've taken show only portions of the sculpture.

custard cow and pickled pig

(viewed 1134 times)
a couple of extra sketches of skane that fell off the end back there. I kept these little piggies in pickling fluid for a few days then boiled them - doesn't seem to have made much difference to how they look but mmm mmm they smell nice. and what did I treat the cow negative with? custard of course! I don't just throw these things together you know...

sketches of skane

originally I was going to call this series "sketches of sweden" but the title above seems more appropriate as the pictures were taken only in sweden's skane region, on the kullaberg peninsula.
