"We're gonna do a lotta new songs, and it may get a little loud," said Robert Fisher at the start. And he was right, too: any illusions I had about the WGC being a quiet introverted band were pretty much shattered from the word go. Terrific stuff, and now I'm gagging to hear the new album. Excellent support from William Elliott Whitmore and Christopher Rees as well - The Belated Birthday Girl went nuts and bought CDs by all three acts on the way out of the gig.

Kid Carpet, Buffalo Bar, Islington
Bristol electropop genius, constructing sonic cathedrals out of samplers, keyboards, the voicebox of a Furby, a cheap ripoff copy of the old Simon game, and a couple of electronic toy guitars (pictures 1 and 2). His version of Jump - a mashup of Van Halen, Ivor Cutler and Sonic The Hedgehog, and I don't mean that metaphorically - has to be heard to be believed. He's just started selling t-shirts at gigs, and The Belated Birthday Girl bought what must presumably be the very first one (picture 3).

We Came In Through The Bathroom Window
Abbey Road Studio 1, for a screening of A Hard Day's Night as part of their film festival thingy. Preceded by a couple of songs by Neil Innes as Ron Nasty of The Rutles: and followed by a Q&A; session repeatedly hijacked by Victor Spinetti, who's incapable of hearing someone's anecdote without following it up with (a better) one of his own.
