This is my personal blog, not a venue for saleable images. In fact, because it's here that I share things that are important to me with the members of the moblog community, photo quality's not my priority. Events, occasions, achievements, thoughts, trips and experiments - you'll find them all here. Contact me for the development version of my photo portfolio, for a selection of saleable images or visit my dance photography blog or my website for cuttings. And remember that all photos remain my copyright unless I've specifically said otherwise.

"Never to get lost is not to live, not to know how to get lost brings you to destruction, and somewhere in the terra incognita in between lies a life of discovery."
........ Rebecca Solnit
"Give, give, give -- what is the point of having experience, knowledge or talent if I don't give it away? Of having stories if I don't tell them to others? Of having wealth if I don't share it? I don't intend to be cremated with any of it! It is in giving that I connect with others, with the world and with the divine."
........ Isabel Allende
"Don't ask yourself what the world needs - ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."

"It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.. you have no such accurate remembrance of a country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle...."

"Ambition leads me not only father than any other man has been before me, but as far as I think it is possible for man to go."

"The grand show is enternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapour is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls."
........ John Muir
"The bicycle is the most civilised conveyance known to man. Other forms of transport grow daily more nightmarish. Only the bicycle remains pure in heart."
........ Iris Murdoch
"Photography for me is not looking, it's feeling. If you can't feel what you're looking at, then you're never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your picture...."

As some of you know, most of my updates about last year were on the Friendship Blog that got deleted.
Rather than try to reproduce messages that went with images here, I've been trying to find a home for pieces on those aspects of my experience that I think may benefit others.
That's why I've spent a few frantic days getting out the blog posts describing my (rather unpleasant) experiences with the NHS and post-cancer reconstructive surgery and how others might get through the same process better. There are 15 in all.
If you're interested the ones already out are at:

and I'll tweet the new ones from CyclistOnChemo as they are published
Images from my current exhibition - of which some might be familiar
1 - 'just a blip' Self portrait comprised of about 500 images that show everything of importance that I've photographed in the last 4-5 years. Friends, family, places, chemo ... even the felt tip pen marks they made on my skin to direct the extent of the mastectomy
2 - 'just be thankful' this has been the most popular. They're all limited edition prints and I'm thrilled to say not many of these are left!
3 - 'size matters' a huge print of the French side of the Pyrenees
4 - 'size doesn't matter' this is 6cm x 4cm and is what started me off on the exhibition theme I'm pretty sure most people miss it.
Just posting the whole set on flickr and fb
last week but I've had no time.. you'll probably see why soon

Finally writing some of the things I've been planning on fanatchicks.com
. The most recent is about this really cool woman I met at the International Canoe Federation World Championships in Banyoles. She competes at a high level in kayak marathon events:
I was fascinated by the different techniques used to carry the canoes and run with them and nonplussed by the apparent clumsiness of pairs as they get back into the water for the next circuit. Since the fluidity with which these non-paddling moves are achieved appears to be a key differentiator at the highest level I'm now investigating current best practice for an article discussing the techniques that are actually used for another piece.
Filmed entirely by Sprocket and H... I accept no responsibility for content apart from running the exhibition in the first place
(although I did cut the shorts a little before I posted them)
